Digital's Next Top Scrapper- My layouts

Tonight I finished my last page for Digital's Next Top Scrapper Season 2. It has been a great 4 weeks- I have enjoyed every challenge, and consider all 4 of these high on my favorite layouts list.

Anyway, here are my 4 entries: I don't think I"ll win- all the participants vote, which I think is really cool.

Week 1 Requirements:

THEME: Inspired by some of Mr. Mint’s most irritating habits, which I now look forward to scrapping, your first challenge is to scrap one thing that drives you nuts about someone you love. It can be your partner, your kids, your roommate or even your pet! What do they do that just irks you? Good luck narrowing it down to just one thing!

DESIGN CHALLENGE: One of the most important aspects of scrapbooking is journaling. One way to do that is to use direct quotes. Include at least one direct quote on your page. It can be the focal point or part of your additional journaling or even blended into your design. Think outside the box!

Here's my entry:

Week 2 Requirements:
THEME: Finish this sentance: "I wish I was/were ____" and use it as both the subject AND the title of your layout. You can be funny, serious, hopeful, regretful, anything you want! Maybe you wish you were taller, older, younger, more patient, less stressed...be creative with this one!

DESIGN CHALLENGE: Use the same photo at least 3 times. Every time you use it, it must be cropped differently. Get creative with your cropping! Use large parts, tiny pieces or do a conservative crop. Anything you can dream up!
Credits are found here.

Week 3 requirements:
THEME: Is your life a comedy? A full on drama? Must see TV? An after school special? This week you must pitch your life as a TV show! You must base this layout on your REAL life however the TV show can be real or fictional or a combination of both. There are no strict guidelines on how you have to do this so take some time to think about it. There are SO many possibilities! I’m dying to see these pages!!!

DESIGN CHALLENGE: You must use a minimum of 5 DIFFERENT photos in this layout. This doesn’t mean that you have to use full photos. Don’t forget that you can use the creative cropping techniques you experimented with last week if you’d like.

And last but not least, week 4:
THEME: Scrap a page from the point of view of an inanimate object. Your topic and journaling must come from the “mouth or mind” of the object. Give your object a voice! For example, you could scrap a page about the mystery meat sitting for weeks in the fridge – what would it say? Your prized possession and it’s meaning to you. A child’s toy or blanket. A neglected piece of furniture. Your computer. Anything! Pets are NOT inanimate objects.

DESIGN CHALLENGE: Colors can set a mood, attract attention, or make a statement. Selecting the right color scheme can drastically impact the look and feel of your page. Color can be your most powerful design element if you learn to use it effectively. Use either a Primary, Analogous, or Triadic color scheme for your page. For a full explanation and examples of each of these color schemes please see MY BLOG. You may also use as much black and white as you wish in combination with your chosen color scheme.

I'm really glad I participated in this. The contest ends Sunday after we all vote. I'm not sure when the winners will be posted. The winners will get a year's worth of the host's products for free. Great stuff!

4 layouts today! WOW!

I had some time this morning while my baby took a nap, so I whipped out 2 layouts for my planner, then this evening got 2 more in!

This was for a couple of different challenges, and I also was able to use some CT stuff, so I killed a few birds with one stone! :)

Credits for Why I Love My Mom can be found here.

Here's another challenge I did tonight for Elemental Scraps "Scrap A Lift" Challenge. It was nice to have the design out of the way. This is last year's first day of school, which means, I'm now officially just a year behind! YAY!
Credits for "Back to School" are here.

I'm also working on my new planner, as I've recently discovered that my big calendar at home doesn't help me when I'm trying to schedule something and I'm not at home. So I jazzed up a template and my whole planner has the same theme. These 2 pages are actually not the ones I did today, but you get the idea. I rather like it!

Credits are the same for both of these and can be found here.

Well, I'm off now! This brings my August Layout total to 33! I'm so pleased with myself!

My first Layout for Pixel Gypsy

I did my first layout for Pixel Gypsy today. I combined both her stuff, and some glitter from a few other people. I also did this for Digi Dare #50, which you can find here.

August has been a super productive month. I have done 29 pages so far! My goal is 15 per month, with a total goal of 200 layouts for 2007. As of last week I had 183, and I've done quite a few since then. Yay me!

My Favorite Things

I made this layout for the Hodge Podge Challenge. We had to scrap about favorites. It was pretty broad, and I journaled this 2 years ago and have been wanting to scrap it anyway. I actually updated the favorites list for today. Everything is by Shabby Princess and Christina Renee- French Countryside. Font is Pea Cammi Pea.

Welcome!

Hi everyone! Welcome to my new digital scrapbooking blog! I still have a lot of work to do to make it pretty, but I thought I'd at least get it started.

My name is Liz and I made the switch from paper to digital in November of 2006. 5 years ago, I was strongly AGAINST digital because I had so much vested in the paper world and couldn't bear the thought of parting with all my rubber stamps. I even had my own handmade greeting card business, which took me away from my first love of scrapbooking for 3 years. I finally gave up the business and decided I wanted to start it back up again. After I had my last child in October, I was dreading starting again, because I had all my pictures on my computer and the thought of buying prints for every picture was overwhelming. The other thing that held me back was how on earth would I find the time to do all this with a new baby. Then, when he started crawling, the mess that paper scrapping makes would be inviting him to get in trouble. So I started researching digital. I asked a friend who I knew had been digital for years some tips to get started, and she pointed me in the right direction. The clincher was discovering that we already owned Photoshop 6. I found a bunch of freebies, and 2 months later, attempted my first layout. I have been amazed at how quickly I picked it up, and how much I look forward to scrapping again, instead of dreading it. I have so much fun putting pages together, and have completed 4 albums, and almost 200 pages since January.

At the beginning of this month, I took the plunge and applied for a few creative teams. I was shocked to actually get offered some positions!

I love participating in challenges, and I love being on the teams I'm on- these designers are so incredibly talented.

Thanks for stopping to check me out! I will be posting layouts, kits I like, and of course, new stuff my designers that I create for come out with.

Have a fantastic weekend!
-Liz
